METAL 2 THE MASSES Heat 4 - FUEL Rock Club, Cardiff; 08.03.2019 / Louder Live
Updated: Aug 5, 2019
Another Friday has come and that means another round of METAL 2 THE MASSES at FUEL Rock Club! Four more bands take the stage to prove why they should go forward to the semi-finals and closer to that Bloodstock stage performance! Would the decision be made easier this time around, or will it be just as difficult to decide as last week? Photos courtesy of Stuart Rowles
Lead By Lies
Kicking everything of at the beginning was Lead By Lies, and they seriously kicked off everything with a bang! Despite only having one single out at the moment, they played ferociously and definitely gave it their all, with a nice blend of clean and unclean vocals, amazing guitar solos, and delivered a great sense of showmanship. Interaction with the audience is key, and they did a great job with that. All of their songs are great to listen to because everything really works together; instrumentation, vocals, and lyrics. Overall, a great one to watch – they may have joked about becoming a Nickelback cover band, but they shouldn’t have to worry about that for their future, for it’s very distant from happening!
Next up were Incursion – remember the random guitar guy in Mad Max: Fury Road? Imagine if he started a hardcore band that was crazy and chaotic, but also amazing! Considering these guys were the finalists last year, they had a lot of expectations to live up to. That they did. There’s a sense of fun that they possess – the fight for the HobNobs will always be a highlight, as not only did it connect the audience with the band, but also kept to their aesthetic whilst being very silly. Worth seeing live again and again if you can!
Then came Fallen Temples; it’s nice to see some great hard rock performed, and this is definitely one of the best! It’s as if this band descended from the rock gods themselves – amazing talent, groovy, really flows well, and THAT DRUMMER! He was practically channelling Keith Moon as he performed! The great thing is that, whilst they have a lot of influences from the classic rock world, the band still sound very original and organic as opposed to a carbon-copy of those that came before them, so they’re worth listening for just that regard, but another great band from South Wales that people should get behind.
Anal Floss Is Boss
Finally was Anal Floss Is Boss – a name like that would catch anyone's intrigue easily, especially at a festival like Bloodstock. Truly genre-defying by mixing sampling, dance music, and the hardest of death metal – all about addiction to porn and poop. Because...why not? What’s great about AFIB is that he continues to interact with the crowd even when the samples are playing, he dances around the stage and lipsyncs along to it instead of standing like a lemon as it plays! Totally unforgettable in both a weird and hard-rocking way.
It would have been awesome to see all of them go through, but there can only be one winner and one wild card. And the result is...Incursion win and Fallen Temples go through with wild card! Some fantastic bands through, and only two more heats! Who will be the next to go through to the final? Gotta come to the next hear 29th March and find out!
