Louder News: Broadside debut two new tracks ahead of their third record's release
Following the success of 2017’s slice of fizzing, summery goodness that was their sophomore full-length ‘Paradise’, Virginia-born Broadside retreated back into, if not the shadows, at least the dappled shade, leaving behind a small legion of fans salivating at the prospect of the next release. Though the completion of their triumvirate may still be shrouded in secrecy, the band have now seen fit to tide their eagerly-awaiting fans over with a two-track single release, set to be blazoned across an exclusive limited edition, coloured 7 inch vinyl.
The first, ‘King of Nothing’, is pulsating, grandiose and rousing, while it’s partner-in-crime, ‘Empty’ is it’s perfect compliment, with an effervescent melody and roadtrip-ready chorus. The dual existence of Broadside’s vocalist and lyricist Ollie Baxxter as both musician and poet is reflected powerfully in the poignant lyricism of both tracks, which speaks directly to the human experience without straying into being convoluted or effusive. Speaking of the tracks’ conception, Broadside’s vocalist Ollie Baxxter said of ‘King of Nothing’ ‘[it] is a song about wanting to be the best… this life as touring musicians… can be painfully lonely. You can be on top of the world and have nothing.’ Similar feelings of malcontent have also fed their way into ‘Empty’: “The duality of a being a broken-hearted romantic splits a person. I wanted to write a dance-y song making fun of how unfortunate it is to be in love, sometimes.”
If ever there was a testament to that philosophy about life and lemons, this is it. Broadside have turned deep-seated feelings of pain and anguish into danceable, uplifting tunes set to make their appearance on the mammoth ‘Midnight’ World Tour, in support of pop rockers Set It Off, a guaranteed hit. Welcome back boys.
‘King of Nothing’ and ‘Empty’ are available to stream everywhere now, and will be released on a limited edition colour vinyl, which you can pre-order at the link here to receive instant downloads of both tracks.
