Louder News - Pixies announce new album 'Beneath The Eyrie' and UK autumn tour dates
Updated: Feb 6
Few bands carry more of a recognisable weight to their name than Nirvana. Yet, being one of the bands whose unique brand of alt rock paved the way for the grunge superstars of the 90s should, arguably carry even more prestige along with it. Especially if that band have the tenacity to have outlasted many of their arrivistes, and still be producing powerfully resonant music more than 30 years after their inception. That crown can be bestowed with raging gusto upon the heads of Pixies, whose idiosyncratic oddities and inherent weirdness threw a darker veil over the late 80's alt rock world, triggering a seismic shift in the musical landscape, from which both grunge, and later emo, arguably spawned. After a lengthy hiatus from releasing new music, Pixies are now preparing to release their third post-reunion album, 'Beneath the Eyrie'. The record is woven with tales of witches and outsiders, the familiar blended potently with the profoundly unsettling. Giving some insight into what this latest record has to offer is lead single 'On Graveyard Hill'. Grainy guitar tones undercut an undeniably bouncy melody line, with a fist-pumping chorus driven by the pulsing of the kick drum. Lyrically, the track contains all that classic Pixies eccentricity, making it a delight for both the band's long-time supporters, and the new wave of fans flooding in from the somewhat ebbing rush of the indie resurgence.

Despite their characteristically mysterious collective persona, Pixies have, this time around, decided to bring a little light into their recording process. A 12-part podcast, ingeniously entitled 'It's a Pixies Podcast', will allow fans a rare glimpse into the band's life in the studio, following them throughout 'Beneath the Eyrie's creation and development. Due for release on June 27th, this unique chance to get inside the recording studio with the band is one not to be missed!
'Beneath the Eyrie' will be released on September 13th via Infectious BMG and is available to pre-order here.
