LOUDER NEWS: Allées unveil their debut single 'Shooting Up'
Lockdown and the seemingly never-ending coronavirus pandemic are a breeding ground for both intense darkness, and also musical ingenuity. These two concepts have aligned for songwriter Matthew Awbery, culminating in his new project, Allées.
'Shooting Up', the debut single under this new moniker, is a six-minute opus, packed full of fuzzy textures and dark, bubbling shoegaze melodies. Combining elements of artists such as The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Black Angels, the track is an artistically impenetrable listen that absorbs you as though you are sinking into tar. Reverberating vocals come creeping through the sludgy melodies, hauntingly veiled by the wailing lead guitar.
Speaking about the single, Matt says that it was “inspired by the grip heroin has on people.
"I was watching a lot of documentaries at the time and became pretty intrigued with watching Pete Doherty writing on the walls in blood and that modern day squat-like aesthetic, and how it’s become entwined with the classic image of a poet.”
