Louder News: COUNTERFEIT. unleash stunning new single 'It Gets Better'
Updated: Feb 6, 2020
After announcing their return to UK stages in grandiose style, with sets at Reading & Leeds Festivals that showcased the true breadth and depth of their eagerly-awaited sophomore record, London’s COUNTERFEIT. have, at last, satiated their fans’ desperate desire for new music in the form of their new single ‘It Gets Better’, released today via Xtra Mile Recordings. Opening with synthesised drums pulse like a heartbeat throughout the track’s duration, it is at once clear that, on this track at least, the band appear to have traded in their idiosyncratic fiery grit in favour of anthemic refrains and wonderfully soaring gang choruses, led by frontman Jamie Campbell Bower’s ever-enigmatic vocal presence. Not that this is at all to their detriment! On the contrary, the rousing chorus is packed full of lighter-waving potential, and while there is evidence of some softer, indie-based influences creeping in to their punk rock aura, COUNTERFEIT. appear (ironically), all the more genuine and vulnerable for it. A sentiment epitomised in the powerful spoken-word passage lain over the final chorus, it is abundantly clear that this is as resonant as anthem for the downtrodden and hopeless as one could hope for. And if the sneak peek of new tracks that the Reading & Leeds crowds were treated to was anything to go by, COUNTERFEIT. are by no means done with the surprises just yet…
'It Gets Better' is available to buy and stream now on all major platforms.
COUNTERFEIT. will be playing some select shows across the US and Europe this autumn, hitting the UK in December- dates and the link for tickets are available here:
