LOUDER NEWS: Holding Absence unveil stunning new single 'Afterlife'
For the legion of fans who have become drawn to metalcore magic-makers Holding Absence like moths to a flame, the band's ability to speak the raw, uncomfortable truth and grapple with the darkest elements of the human psyche is an enthralling prospect. Though their presence within the world of alternative music has grown exponentially over the past few years, that is something they have always managed to retain- and their new single, 'Afterlife', is no different.
The second single from their upcoming sophomore record, 'The Greatest Mistake of My Life', 'Afterlife' roars into being, as it's powerful opening line rips through the silence, allowing the raw emotion that is the essence of Holding Absence to pour forth. Haunting, ethereal guitars drift and float in the background, overtured by Lucas's perfectly controlled yet emphatic vocals. There is enough power and guts at the heart of this track to make you want to scream it from the rooftops, which one might worry would drown out the heart-wrenching vulnerability that has so far characterised the band's discography. Thankfully, it does anything but: this song still maintains that white-hot candour that adorned tracks such as 'You Are Everything' - a notion which has become the band's motto - but has enough pop vitality to endear it to a whole new crowd of wandering souls also looking for something to believe in. This is Holding Absence at their authentic best; despite the radio ready melody, this track proves they are ready to bring music that means something back to the world's biggest stages.
