LOUDER NEWS: The Wolf Howls When I Scream Your Name unveil haunting new track, 'Doreen'

Cheshire-based alternative rock trio The Wolf Howls When I Scream Your Name have always been defined by their powerful, introspective lyricism, which is, more often than not, laid over the top of maudlin, yet anthemic melodies. However, their newly released single 'Doreen' takes both of those defining characteristics, and dials them up to heady new heights.

Perhaps their most emotionally-charged single to date, 'Doreen' was written as a love-letter to lead singer Matthew Awbery's Nan, who battled with Alzheimer's Disease for several years, until the illness finally took her life just over a month ago. Originally intended to be the last single of the campaign in support of their upcoming album 'Grief Songs', the band have decided to release 'Doreen' early, in her memory. All proceeds from purchases of the single on BandCamp will be donated to the Alzheimer's Society, a charity which supports people living with dementia and their families.

Speaking about the track, Matty explains: “When I wrote this song, I had my grandmother in mind after visiting her in hospital a couple of years ago, when we thought we were going to lose her. This song is about a loss of self, being consumed by an illness of any kind. It’s not directly about dementia, it’s about how someone can lose themselves along the way.”

Combining eerily haunting vocals with dark, brooding basslines that lead into a heavily pulsating chorus, it is impossible for your emotions not to be roused by this profoundly heartfelt single.
