LOUDER REVIEWS: 'Within Each Lies The Other' - As Everything Unfolds
Post-hardcore up and comers As Everything Unfolds have released their highly anticipated debut album 'Within Each Lies The Other', which explores the light and dark that make us human.
'Within Each Lies The Other' follows the success of their 2018 EP 'Closure', and the band's signing to record label Long Branch Records in 2020. The higher production is clear in the experimental textures that flow through the record, something that makes As Everything Unfolds a stand out in post-hardcore. The layering of the stunning soft vocals, as well as the dirty vocals, both by Charlie Rolfes, is done in a unique way that makes it feel as if you're listening to multiple songs at the same time, in the best possible way. It adds dimension to tracks that will have you crying one second, and ready to mosh in the next.
Album opener 'On The Inside' has a familiar sound, especially if you're a big fan of post-hardcore, with the synth, played by Jon Cassidy, providing something extra that freshens up the sound. It's clear why the track is one of the lead singles as it showcases all the staple components that As Everything Unfolds do so well, from the strong riffs to the dominating drums.
The debut was summed up by the band as representing, "the very best and worst of ourselves: our anger, sadness, vengeance and happiness”. 'I'm Not The Only One' is all of that wrapped into 3 minutes, the emotion that comes through in Rolfe's haunting vocals, which are again complimented with raw screams. This track is truly a rollercoaster of emotions, but is done so effortlessly the audience also feel vulnerable themselves.
'Grayscale' is one of the remarkable moments throughout the album, truly showing the diversity of the band and providing an even higher level of vulnerability that makes us fall in love with artists. In a year that has been so difficult for so many, 'Grayscale' will bring you back to a sensitive place but still with that sense of hopefulness that takes it beyond just being a sad song.
'Within Each Lies The Other' is an album that is more than worthy of the hype and anticipation, and more importantly it's a soundtrack to those who rely on music to uplift themselves during tender moments.
